Frequently Asked Questions
My hope is that my clients encounter respect, dignity, honor, & safety in our relationship regardless of ability, ethnicity, color, sex, gender identification, sexual preference, faith expression, marital status, etc. That has not always been the case in counseling experiences for many.
What can I expect working with you?
The First Few Sessions
The first few sessions will be focused on getting to know you, exploring your unique story, addressing areas of your life that you would like to address, getting clear about what you would like your life to look like, and setting goals to map your progress in your counseling journey.
It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know me, ask me questions, and get a feel for working with me. My utmost desire for each person I meet is to make sure they get the best care possible, whether that is working with me or working with another counselor.
Our Work Together
A major focus in my work is helping you see your life with fresh eyes and to celebrate your strengths as part of your process and journey. Our focus on these two things will be useful as we address the areas of your life that need to be healed and transformed.
I am committed to creating relationships built on safety and trust, as well as working with excellence to give you the space you need to process, heal, and move forward in your life. Together we will build a toolset for you to regain control of your life. We will seek a balance for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health so that you can create a life of deeper satisfaction, joy, and purpose.
It is my desire for you to feel seen, heard, and understood with empathy, understanding, and free of judgment. I believe in making the counseling process transparent, organic and personal. I like to use humor, even in the midst of the pain, so that we can allow ourselves to be fully human as I support your recovery. I truly show up as my most authentic, trained self to listen and offer you the tools you need to heal, grow and make the transformation you desire.
How often do we meet?
We will meet once a week at a recurring time slot until you reach your goals. I have found this to be more effective than sessions every other week or once a month because you can often achieve faster progress the more frequently we meet.
How long will I need to be in counseling?
The length of time you will be in counseling is something we can discuss openly throughout the counseling process. My goal is to help you reach your goals. Attending weekly sessions for 12 weeks will make a big impact on your anxiety and/or depression. Transitioning to twice a month sessions and then monthly maintenance sessions is common. Together we will be monitoring your progress and that will be what determines the frequency and length of treatment you will need.
What’s your cancellation policy?
I have a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel, make sure you give me 48 hours notice to avoid paying the late cancellation fee, which is the full session rate. I do make exceptions for emergencies that may arise.
What do I need to do?
Be yourself - I know it may sound cliché (did you just roll your eyes? lol), but it is the truth. This is THE best place to bring all of you and let it all be seen.
In session, you need to be OPEN to the process. Know that it might be awkward at first. It’s going to be hard, sometimes. There will be many weeks when you really don’t want to come, but those are the weeks that you REALLY need to show up.
In order for you to get the most benefit from your investment into YOURSELF, you have to be willing to peel back the layers and do the work. I’ll be here supporting you as you work on your transformation.
